Positions in Drama Club

Acting

There are a variety of shows that students can audition for throughout the year. In addition to a fall play and spring musical, we do an annual variety show where students may act in student-written skits and show off their talents like singing, dancing, etc. This is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to try out the drama club but not commit to a full show. Any information about upcoming auditions will be posted to the Google Classroom, announced on the school news and morning announcements; and you can also join the official drama club Group Me to keep up to date on the drama club schedule and future shows. If you have any questions contact our director Melanie Mortiomore at mortimorem@talawanda.org

Tech

Good with your hands? Enjoy painting? Want to learn how the light and sound you see in shows are created? If so, then tech is perfect for you! Being part of Tech also allows you to be on the run crew, moving props and sets onto stage. Everything just mentioned is a vital part of any show. Unlike acting you do not have to audition for tech, simply contact stage manager Sam Cantwell at samuel.cantwell@talawanda.org for information on the next tech meeting and you will be informed as soon as possible. You can also join the official drama club Group Me for notifications on future tech meetings if you have any questions about tech contact stage manager Sam Cantwell at samuel.cantwell@talawanda.org

Writing

If you want your writing to be featured by the drama club, we do a variety show in the spring each year that gives students the chance to write one-act plays that the actors will put on. Multiple members have written for the drama club, and it’s a great way to get your writing out there. Simply email your work to Melanie Mortimore at mortimorem@talawanda.org at any point during the school year.

Assistant Directing

If you are interested in learning how to be a director or simply looking for a leadership role, assistant director might be the fit for you. Being an assistant director means you help with organizing meetings, helping actors learn their lines, working with tech on props, lights, and sound; helping the director with blocking, etc. It is suggested you start small and get experience with drama before taking this on, as it’s a big job but a great way to do that is with the variety show. Last year our variety show was directed entirely by our very own Amaria Sanford. This role is excellent for people who are strong leaders and want to be involved in Drama without being an actor or on tech. For questions contact Melanie Mortimore at  moritmorem@talawanda.org.
