Talawanda High School E-News - January 24th, 2019

Reminders:

  • This past weekend the Swim & Dive teams took part in the Southwest Ohio Officials Classic.  This is the largest meet in the entire country as over 110 teams take part in it. Out of those 110 teams the girls team finished in 38th place and the boys team finished in 17th.  The meet was highlighted by two outstanding individual performances. Maren Patterson finished in 10th place in the 100 Backstroke and Sam Hool won the 1 Meter Diving event. Congratulations to both.  On the boys side 3 relay teams also placed in the top 16. The 200 Free Relay composed of Ben Crowder, Luke Liang, Rhyan Meyers, and John Anzano placed 13th. The 400 Free Relay composed of the same four boys placed 14th.  And then the 200 Medley Relay team of John, Blake Madden, Ben, and Luke placed 13th. The swim and dive teams are next in the water this Friday in a tri-meet against Little Miami and Hagerstown, Indiana. The meet will be at the Miami Rec Center and it will be senior night for the Brave.  Be sure to come out and support your 13 time league champion Brave swim and dive teams Friday at 6 PM.

  • Setting Stone received two Gold Circle Awards for their 2018-19 magazine. Seniors Eleanor Prytherch and Kei Brown earned a Certificate of Merit for a layout they designed, and senior Maddie Evans earned a Certificate of Merit for her poem, "The Lightning Strikes." Out of 7,187 magazine entries, only 807 received awards. This is a huge honor for Setting Stone and for these students. Setting Stone is currently working on their 2019-20 issue, which will likely be released in May.

  • The Talawanda Yearbook is accepting senior portraits from now until March 6th.  If you would like your Senior to have their professional portrait in the yearbook, please email your .jpeg image greater than 1MB to yearbook@talawanda.org.

  • Dust off your zoot suits and make sure your seams are straight: THS is hosting "An Evening of Jazz" on Tuesday, March 10th at 7:00 pm in the Performing Arts Center.  This swingin' evenin' is a collaborative effort between the five THS choirs and the THS Jazz Band.  You'll think you are in the front row at The Cotton Club as our 120 talented cats and kittens present jazz from all eras.  Ragtime, Latin, big band swing, Broadway showtunes, funk, blues, and even adapted rock and roll covers will be represented.  The joint will be jumpin' with hits and harmonies that will keep your toes tappin' and fingers snappin'. Admission is free, and you will not want to miss this event!
