Marshall Elementary Weekly E-News

September 6, 2019

A Peaceful, Productive, Healthy, and Happy Community

The mission of Marshall Elementary is to work as a community to achieve higher levels of thinking and learning by empowering every learner everyday.

School News and Information

Our first Marshall Parent Teacher Group (PTG) Meeting will be Monday September 9 at 7:00 PM in the Marshall Cafeteria.  All parents are invited and welcome! At this meeting, we will have a video walk through of the NEW Marshall which is set to begin construction in March.  Also we will present PAX Tools that can be used at home.

Pick up Reminder - If your plan to pick up your child at the end of the day, please send a note with your child in the morning (unless your child is an everyday pick up).  This is the only way to ensure that your child is sent to the cafeteria at dismissal time. Please note that for safety reasons we cannot accept changes to dismissal procedures via phone call.

Just a reminder:

School begins at 9:15 with student dropoff beginning at 9:05 AM.

Breakfast students may enter the center front doors at 8:50 AM.

Parent pick up begins at 3:50 PM (3:05 PM on Wednesdays)

Bus Dismissal is at 4:00 PM (3:15 PM on Wednesdays)

New Elementary Report Card

For the past year teachers, parents, and administrators have met to discuss and give input on the EMONI grading system used to report how students are performing in the classroom.  After much input and reflection, Talawanda Elementary schools; Kramer, Bogan, and Marshall will be changing from the EMONI reporting system to a numerical system. The purpose of this reporting change is to better communicate with parents and students about the achievement of grade level expectations.  Students will be marked using a 4 point scale indicating how well a student has mastered the grade-level standards.

Destination Imagination

Destination Imagination is an innovative creative problem-solving program for participants from kindergarten through high school. Teams of 5 to 7 participants are challenged to solve one of six unique Team Challenges and an Instant Challenge using their own ideas and talents. Each of the six challenges offers participants an opportunity to explore STEAM (STEM + ART!) areas such as science, technology, engineering, improvisation, fine art, and outreach. Creating solutions requires creativity, teamwork, and learning new skills. See back side of this paper for info on signing up your student and/or volunteering as a team manager.

We will be hosting an informational meeting about Destination Imagination on Wednesday, September 18th, from 6pm-7pm in the upstairs meeting room at the Oxford Lane Public Library located at 441 S. Locust Street. All are welcome to attend! We will explain the program and how teams are formed. Sign ups will also be available for students interested in participating.

Shana Rosenberg shared the following Destination Imagination information.

QuikApps makes it easy for parents to apply for free or reduced meal status for their children using a simple, secure, step-by-step online form. Applications can be signed electronically, and eligibility for meal benefits is automatically determined once the application is complete.  Please use this link to access QuickApps information.
