Marshall Enews 8/16/2024
Happy Friday! Our 2nd through 5th-grade students had an excellent start to the school year during the first three days. They, along with our amazing staff, spent time getting to know each other, learning the rules and routines, and familiarizing themselves with the daily procedures of navigating the building. It was a fun and productive week!
Students in Kindergarten and 1st grade will begin school on Monday, August 19, 2024. Please be aware that bus routes and the vehicle line may experience some delays as we ensure each student gets to the correct spot for dismissal. We appreciate your patience as we work through this process.
For our Kindergarten parents and the first day of school, you are welcome to walk your child down the hall to their classroom and drop them off on Monday. After they’ve settled in, you’ll be able to exit the building. Starting Tuesday, all students will enter the building as usual.
The school day will begin at 8:25 am and we will dismiss at 3:05 pm. Students may enter the building for breakfast starting at 8:05 am. Students who do not eat breakfast at Marshall may enter the building at 8:05 am.
Final Forms
Final Forms was introduced a few years ago to complete student information. If you have created an account you can log in, check your information, and update your forms. The Kramer staff have been trained on how to use Final Forms and can assist you with any problems that you may encounter. If you need access to the internet or a computer, please stop in the Kramer office and we will assist you.

SCHOOL COUNSELOR - MS. PETER
Welcome Back
I am so happy to be working out of just one building this year. I’m excited to work with the students, get to know them better, grow together and have fun.
I’ll be interacting with your child on a regular basis. At least every other week, I’ll be in each classroom presenting Second Step Lessons (see below explanation). I spend time with the students at lunch for relationship building. Some students may be referred by a teacher to work with me in a small group, a lunch bunch or individually. If you would like me to see your child, feel free to reach out.
Talawanda’s mission is to Empower Every Study Everyday. We want your child to be successful in school and that means supporting and encouraging their whole development. While excelling in academic classes is important, children also need skills to take on learning challenges, make good decisions, manage strong emotions, and get along with others. We’ll use Second Step® Elementary, a research-based social-emotional learning program designed to improve children’s social-emotional skills. Second Step skills and concepts are designed to help children both in and out of school.
The four units will cover the following:
- Growth Mindset & Goal-Setting: Children learn how to pay attention and manage distractions, develop a growth mindset, and apply goal-setting strategies to their social and academic lives.
- Emotion Management: Children learn how to identify and label emotions and use emotionmanagement strategies—including stress management for older students—to calm strong feelings.
- Empathy & Kindness: Children learn how to recognize kindness and act kindly, have empathy for others and take others’ perspectives, and recognize kind acts and empathy as important elements of building and maintaining relationships.
- Problem-Solving: Children learn how to identify and state a problem, recognize if a problem is an accident, and use the STEP problem-solving process: S: Say the problem T: Think of solutions E: Explore the outcomes P: Pick a solution
I hope you have a great school year. Thank you for the opportunity to work with your child.
