Happy Friday!  We hope you have had a great week!

We have a number of repeat items and a couple of new items.

Teaching and Learning Director, Lindsey Gregg shared the following information about an upcoming Mental Health Screener for 4th, 7th and 9th grade students.

4th & 5th Grade Coding Club

Talawanda students are fortunate to have the opportunity to learn about computer coding from Miami University’s student organization, Kode2Learn. Space in the Kramer Elementary coding club is limited.  Coding club is available for fourth, and fifth grade students on Thursday afternoons from 4:15-5:00 pm. The club will consist of 25 students, who will be selected using a lottery process. Please use this link for more information.

District School Nurse Stephanie Johnson

District TSD Nurse, Stephanie Johnson wanted to remind students of the following:

With the flu season approaching. Please remind students "It is important  to not touch anything that is not yours" . This includes anything that can have bodily fluids on it. Examples are paper towels , tissues , toilet tissue, and puddles on the floors. All of the examples could have disease  and it could transfer to the student or other students in their classroom.

New Elementary Report Card

For the past year teachers, parents, and administrators have met to discuss and give input on the EMONI grading system used to report how students are performing in the classroom.  After much input and reflection, Talawanda Elementary schools; Kramer, Bogan, and Marshall will be changing from the EMONI reporting system to a numerical system. The purpose of this reporting change is to better communicate with parents and students about the achievement of grade level expectations.  Students will be marked using a 4 point scale indicating how well a student has mastered the grade-level standards.

Destination Imagination

Destination Imagination is an innovative creative problem-solving program for participants from kindergarten through high school. Teams of 5 to 7 participants are challenged to solve one of six unique Team Challenges and an Instant Challenge using their own ideas and talents. Each of the six challenges offers participants an opportunity to explore STEAM (STEM + ART!) areas such as science, technology, engineering, improvisation, fine art, and outreach. Creating solutions requires creativity, teamwork, and learning new skills. See back side of this paper for info on signing up your student and/or volunteering as a team manager.

We will be hosting an informational meeting about Destination Imagination on Wednesday, September 18th, from 6pm-7pm in the upstairs meeting room at the Oxford Lane Public Library located at 441 S. Locust Street. All are welcome to attend! We will explain the program and how teams are formed. Sign ups will also be available for students interested in participating.

QuikApps makes it easy for parents to apply for free or reduced meal status for their children using a simple, secure, step-by-step online form. Applications can be signed electronically, and eligibility for meal benefits is automatically determined once the application is complete.  Please use this link to access QuickApps information.
