Dear Talawanda Students, Families, and Community,
Talawanda School District just received word from the Butler County Health Department that ALL Talawanda Schools are closed effectively immediately! Students will NOT report to school on Friday March 13, 2020.
Ohio Governor, Mike DeWine, issued an order today to close schools in Ohio beginning Monday, and continuing for the next 3 weeks. This aligns with an additional order to not host large gatherings of over 100 people. School clubs, activities, and athletics are cancelled during this time. These measures are designed to limit the transmission of the COVID-19 virus, keep our citizens well, and do what we can to not over-burden our health care systems.
Talawanda faculty and staff will meet tomorrow March 13, 2020 to finalize remote online learning plans by grade level. Remote Online Learning will begin for students and staff on Wednesday March 18, 2020. Your child can access lessons from their device. Expect more information from your child’s school and teachers regarding the expectations for your child’s online lessons. Teachers will monitor students every scheduled online instructional day. Students should report any device issues to their teacher. We know we have some families that do not have access to the internet in their home, and we have staff members working directly with them on this issue. If you have not received a communication, but need assistance, please let your child’s teacher know and we will have someone contact you.
Please don’t forget that Spring Break is March 23-27, so we will not host online learning that week, but we will back online the week of March 30-April 3. We hope to return to school on April 6, 2020.
Earlier today we sent an email and posted information on our website regarding families that may need assistance during the COVID-19 crisis. If your circumstances have changed, please go to our website for this helpful information. We have school social workers that can help anyone that needs to apply for free/reduced school meals. The district has a plan in place to continue to assist any student that receives these services and weekend meal assistance. See link for more information. Information/School Social Workers/F&R
The Butler County Health Department has mandated that that any student or staff member that has traveled outside of the United States must report this to their building principal. Any person who has traveled outside of the United States, will not be allowed to return to school for 14 days from the date of their return.
Thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding as we all work together during this unprecedented time. The district will send new information to families as we receive new updates from health officials and state leaders. Take care of eachother and stay well!
