Student Bus Incident- Bogan Elementary & TMS:

All Students are safe!

Last evening several parents reported that their children shared a story with them after getting off the bus in regard to a potential weapon in the possession of another student.  The district immediately started an investigation.  Thankfully the district can report that the item was in fact a toy.  That said, students absolutely cannot bring toys to school that may be mistaken for a weapon and should never handle a weapon in school or on the bus!  We encourage students to speak up to the nearest adult.

In the course of the investigation, it was reported that several TMS students were seen handling a toy gun on the same bus. TMS is also in the process of investigating the report.  Should this report prove to be true, TMS will issue discipline as outlined in TSD policies.

The administration and district are following all policies in regard to issues of this nature and discipline has been issued already to the Bogan student.

Please be vigilant in talking with your children about safety, and also please be vigilant in checking student backpacks.  It is critically important that TSD has your cooperation at home in keeping items that are NOT school-appropriate at home and keeping our schools, buses, and activities safe.

Please know that the safety and security of students and staff is the most important issue in the Talawanda School District.  We need every member of our community to support the district in maintaining a safe and positive learning environment for the children in our community!  Thank you again to the people who have shown courage in speaking up in this matter.  It truly does take a village, and we appreciate the many folks who follow the district motto of “See Something…Say Something”

Thank you.
