Discussion Items from the July 8th BOE Meeting
The Board of Education hosted their monthly business meeting on July 8, 2021. There were a few discussion items that are of interest to families in the Talawanda community that the district office would like to make clear for parents.
1. The Marshall Construction Project has continued to experience delays. The district conducted a survey with multiple options to determine what Marshall families would prefer to do regarding plans for the start of the coming school year. 210 families completed the survey, and 79% of those families prefer to delay the first day until September 7, 2021. The construction company and project management team will continue to do everything within their power to address the delays in the hopes of possibly starting school on time. Marshall parents should start to make childcare plans, and mo0re information will be available as we move closer to the start of the new school year.
2. The school board discussed options regarding Covid-19 and face masks. They voted unanimously to institute a policy that requires students and visitors to wear masks at the 3 elementary schools (preschool- grade 5). The Board wishes to institute this policy until a vaccine suitable for younger children becomes available. For THS & TMS (Grades 6-12) face masks are optional.
