Why Public Schools are the Best Choice for Families in Talawanda School District

Public schools play a critical role in shaping the future of our communities, and at TSD, we’re proud to deliver an exceptional educational experience for every student who walks through our doors. During Public Schools Week, we celebrate the distinct advantages of public education and why choosing TSD is the best decision a family residing in our district can make.

High Standards for Teaching and Learning

TSD has a 4.5 star rating as recognized by the Ohio State Report Card. This distinction reflects our commitment to academic excellence and accountability. Public schools, unlike private schools, charter schools, or homeschools, are held to rigorous state standards, ensuring transparency and measurable outcomes. Our state report card offers families an objective tool to evaluate our effectiveness and success, proving that TSD consistently meets and exceeds expectations. See Data HERE

Welcoming and Serving All Students

One of the cornerstones of public education is inclusivity. At TSD, we take immense pride in serving every child who resides in our district, regardless of their background, abilities, or economic status. Our schools:

  • Serve 1175 students (nearly 40%) who are economically disadvantaged, ensuring equitable access to high-quality education and resources.
  • Support 382 students (13.7%) with disabilities, offering specialized services tailored to their unique needs.
  • Provide advanced learning opportunities for gifted students, ensuring they are challenged and inspired to reach their full potential.

This commitment to inclusivity reflects our belief that every child deserves the best opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive in a supportive environment.

Licensed and Highly Qualified Teachers

The success of our students begins with our dedicated teachers. At TSD, 99.4% of our teachers are teaching in the subject or field for which they are certified or licensed. Additionally, 73% of our educators hold a master’s degree, demonstrating their commitment to professional growth and excellence in education.

Our highly qualified teachers ensure that students receive instruction from experts who are passionate about their subjects and dedicated to helping every child succeed. This level of expertise is a hallmark of public education, where stringent certification requirements guarantee that only the best educators lead our classrooms.

Comprehensive Support for the Whole Child

Education at TSD extends beyond academics. We understand that students’ success depends on addressing their physical, emotional, and developmental needs. Our support staff includes:

  • School counselors who assist with course selection, college and career planning, and emotional well-being.
  • Licensed school psychologists who provide evaluations and interventions to support students’ learning and mental health.
  • Specialists in physical and occupational therapy who help students overcome challenges and thrive in the classroom.
  • Each of our 5 schools have a school social worker, as well as other staff and educational assistants who support students each and every day.
  • In addition to many supportive programs, TSD has a comprehensive wellness program that is co-funded by our community.  The local Health Coordinating Council reviews and recommends all wellness programs the district adopts.

By focusing on the whole child, we create an environment where students feel supported and empowered to achieve their goals.

Why Choose Talawanda Schools?

When families choose Talawanda Schools, they are choosing a district that is held accountable, staffed with highly qualified professionals, and committed to serving every student. As a public school district, we don’t select our students…we serve them all.

This distinction is what makes public schools the heart of every community.

During Public Schools Week, we invite our community to celebrate the impact of public education and the ways Talawanda Schools prepare our students for success in life. By choosing TSD, you are choosing an excellent educational experience for your child, with outstanding faculty, staff, and programs delivered to our students by people who really care!
