TALAWANDA BUSINESS ADVISORY COUNCIL
The Talawanda School District is a part of the Butler County Educational Service Center / Butler Tech Business Advisory Council. This Council is led by the leadership of Butler Tech and their Workforce Development Department.
The Business Advisory Council operates with the vision: To prepare today’s students for tomorrow’s jobs.
The Council meets quarterly with the mission: To create learning experiences that will transform students’ lives, business, and the community.
The members of the Business Advisory Council include educators, business and industry leaders, trade and professional organizations, elected officials as well as members of the area Chamber of Commerce.
Strategies:
Advocacy
- Share with elected officials, chambers of commerce, trade and professional organizations, and other relevant groups the need and benefits of:
- career tech education
- strong business partnerships that provide guidance and well prepared workforce to meet current and future needs
- authentic and relevant learning experiences that provide real life experiences
- Provide news stories concerning CTE programs to the local news media.
- Participate in multi-media programs designed to promote career education.
- Testify in support of career and technical education at meetings which may be called by local and state officials, boards, and legislative groups.
- Build interest and understanding between the school and community organizations through partnerships
Course Content and Industry Credentials
- Review and recommend content for the course of study, specific course competencies and standards of proficiency necessary for initial and continued employment in the occupation.
- Evaluate existing equipment, facilities, and resources and recommend improvements.
- Recommend and assist with obtaining testing for industry credentials, licenses and certifications.
- Advise on new and emerging occupations.
- Advise on the changing nature of the competencies in occupational fields.
Provide Work Base Learning Experiences and Job Opportunities
- Assist with identifying and implementing Job Shadowing, Internships, Co-Ops, and Pre-Apprenticeships.
- Encourage other businesses to stimulate development of work experience opportunities
- Assist in placing graduates by informing the institutions of opportunities to place students in full- or part-time jobs.
