Wilbur “Weeb” Ewbank, is one of the most celebrated of our inductees, winning championships at McGuffey School, and with the Baltimore Colts and the New York Jets.
A graduate of Morton High School in Richmond, Indiana, Weeb attended Miami University from 1924-1928. After 2 years of successful coaching in football, basketball, and baseball at Van Wert H.S., Coach Ewbank returned to Oxford. He coached football and basketball at McGuffey while teaching physical education through Miami University, and had one season as Miami University Basketball Coach in 1939.
Weeb led the McGuffey Green Devils to numerous championships, including a 3 year run, from 1936-1938, where his football teams went undefeated. In 1936, they were not only undefeated, they were un-scored upon.
Already recognized for his accomplishments in the Nation Football League, Weeb is a member of Hall of Fames across the country, including; Miami University, Butler County, Indiana Football, National Football League, Maryland Football, Ohio H.S. Coaches, and Pop Warner Football Hall of Fame.
It is with great pleasure that we recognize Wilbur “Weeb” Ewbank, for his successes here in Oxford, with the McGuffey Green Devils, as a member of the initial class of the Talawanda Athletic Hall of Fame.
